Terms of Service
Last updated: June 12, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing or using KinSentry ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
KinSentry is a browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, together with the kinsentry.com website and user dashboard, designed to protect users from online scams. Features include blocking remote desktop and remote-access software sites, detecting scam pages, detecting phishing emails in supported webmail services, guarding against downloads of commonly abused remote-support software, and alerting and dashboard tools for family members. The Service is offered in Free, Guardian, and Family tiers; available features vary by tier.
The set of features, supported browsers, and tier composition may change over time as the Service evolves.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. Devices protected under a Family plan must be used in accordance with Section 9.
4. Account Registration
To access certain features, you must create an account with accurate and complete information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account.
5. Licence
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the KinSentry extension for personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control (or, for Family plans, on household member devices as described in Section 9). All rights not expressly granted are reserved by KinSentry. The Service, including its software, branding, detection systems, and content, remains our property or that of our licensors.
6. Subscription & Billing
Paid subscriptions (Guardian and Family) are billed either monthly or annually, as selected at the time of purchase. Prices are:
- Guardian: $6.99/month (monthly) or $4.99/month (billed annually at $59.88/year)
- Family: $11.99/month (monthly) or $9.99/month (billed annually at $119.88/year)
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the end of the current billing period. All payments are processed securely by our third-party payment processor; we do not store your full card details. Prices may change with advance notice; changes take effect at your next renewal.
7. Free Trial
New users receive a 30-day free trial of the Guardian plan. No credit card is required. After the trial period, the account will downgrade to the Free tier unless a paid plan is selected.
8. Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time from your dashboard. Upon cancellation, your paid features will remain active until the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused portions of a billing cycle.
9. Family Plan
The Family plan allows one subscriber (the "plan administrator") to extend protection to other devices in their household ("member devices"), up to the device limit of the plan. The following terms apply:
- Consent is required. The administrator may add a member device only with the knowledge and agreement of the person who uses it. The administrator is solely responsible for obtaining this consent before activating monitoring on a member device, and for complying with any laws that apply to monitoring within their household.
- Household use only. Member devices must belong to members of the administrator's household or family. The Family plan must not be used to monitor employees, customers, or any person outside this scope.
- Invite codes. Member devices are added using invite codes generated by the administrator. Codes are single-use and expire if not redeemed promptly. The administrator is responsible for sharing codes only with the intended household members.
- Administrator controls. The administrator can view protection activity from member devices, adjust each device's protection settings remotely, and remove devices from the household at any time, as described in our Privacy Policy (Section 2.10).
- Effect of cancellation. If the Family subscription is cancelled, downgraded, or the household is dissolved, member devices are disconnected and their protection stops.
10. Advertising on Free Tiers
The Free and Free-Trial tiers display a small number of first-party affiliate advertisements within the dashboard and new-tab page, as described in our Privacy Policy (Section 3.5). Paid Guardian and Family subscribers do not see advertising.
11. Limitations of Liability
KinSentry provides scam protection on a best-effort basis. While we continuously update our blocklists and detection systems, we cannot guarantee that every scam site, scam email, malicious download, or scam attempt will be blocked or detected, and legitimate content may occasionally be flagged in error. KinSentry is not a substitute for general cybersecurity awareness and caution.
KinSentry is a protective tool, not an insurance product or a guarantee. We do not insure you against scams or fraud, and we make no promise that you will not be scammed while using the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no responsibility or liability for any financial loss — including money lost to a scam — whether the loss arises from a scam the Service did not detect or block, from protection features being disabled, ignored, or overridden, or from negligent or improper use of the product.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, KinSentry shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including any losses resulting from scams that the Service did not detect or block.
12. User Conduct
You agree not to: reverse engineer or decompile the extension, use the Service for any unlawful purpose, attempt to circumvent the extension's security features, submit false scam reports, or use Family plan monitoring on any device without the consent of the person who uses it.
13. Suspension & Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you materially breach these Terms, abuse the Service (including submitting false reports or attempting to interfere with our detection systems), or use the Service unlawfully. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time as described in our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Licence restrictions, Limitations of Liability, and Governing Law) will survive.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED], without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED]. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable consumer rights you hold under the laws of your place of residence.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through the extension. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
