Setting up your Family household

As the family organizer, create a household so you can protect and monitor up to 3 loved ones' devices.

  1. Upgrade to the Family plan from the pricing page, then log in at kinsentry.com.
  2. Go to your Family dashboard (family.html). As the admin, you manage everything from here — no extension needed on your own device.
  3. Review your household: you can add up to 3 member devices for the people you want to protect.
  4. Configure household-wide alert settings (where alerts are sent) from the dashboard.
Note: The admin device doesn't count toward the 3-device limit — all 3 seats go to the family members you're protecting.

Activating a device with an invite code

Get a loved one's device protected by generating a code and entering it in their extension.

  1. Admin: In your Family dashboard, click Generate invite code and give it a device label (e.g. "Mom's Laptop").
  2. You'll get a 6-character code (letters and numbers). It's valid for 24 hours and can be used once.
  3. On the family member's device: install the KinSentry extension, open it, and click Activate a family device with an invite code.
  4. Enter the 6-character code. The device is now linked to your household and protected — no email or password needed on their end.
Tip: Outstanding codes show in your dashboard with a Revoke button, so you can cancel one if it's no longer needed.

How remote-access blocking works

Understand how KinSentry stops scammers from installing remote-control software like AnyDesk or TeamViewer.

  1. KinSentry watches for visits to 70+ known remote-desktop download sites (AnyDesk, TeamViewer, UltraViewer, and more).
  2. If you or a loved one lands on one — often because a scammer directed them there — KinSentry shows a full-screen warning.
  3. The warning explains the risk in plain language and blocks the download before the software reaches the device.
  4. Nothing to configure — this protection is on by default for every plan.
Why it matters: Remote-access software is the #1 tool scammers use to take control of a victim's computer. Blocking it stops the scam at the source.

Scam page & popup blocking

See what happens when KinSentry catches a fake "virus detected" page or tech-support popup.

  1. When a page tries to show a fake virus alert or fraudulent tech-support warning, KinSentry detects it automatically.
  2. A clear scam alert overlay appears, warning that the page is trying to trick you and to never call the number shown.
  3. Tap "I'll close this — keep me safe" to dismiss the scam page safely.
  4. If it was a false alarm on a site you trust, you can choose "Mark this site as safe" so it won't warn again there.
Tip: Real companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Norton never show pop-ups telling you to call a phone number. That's always a scam.

Phishing email detection

Learn how KinSentry flags dangerous emails in Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and AOL before they fool you.

  1. Open your webmail (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or AOL) as usual — KinSentry scans messages quietly in the background.
  2. When it spots phishing signs — spoofed senders, fake "account suspended" warnings, urgent payment requests — a warning banner appears above the email.
  3. The banner explains why the email looks suspicious so you can decide carefully before clicking anything.
  4. This feature is available on the free trial and Family plans. Turn it on or off anytime in Settings.
Tip: The banner is non-blocking — it informs you without locking up your inbox, so you stay in control.

Voice alerts & adjusting settings

Turn protection features on or off and enable spoken warnings for users who don't read screens closely.

  1. Open the KinSentry extension and go to Settings.
  2. Toggle individual protections on or off: remote-site blocking, scam-page blocking, phishing email detection, and notifications.
  3. Enable Voice Warning Alerts so a clear spoken warning plays the moment a scam is detected — ideal for users who may miss an on-screen message.
  4. Settings save automatically and sync to your account.
Tip: For a Family household, the admin can manage protection settings for each member device remotely from the dashboard.

Help improve protection for everyone by reporting scam numbers, scam sites, or a site that was blocked by mistake.
